Even better when I was there in 2007 a wizened old Japanese gentleman was walking up the path, contrary to the direction in which you are guided by these signposts, hands clasped behind his back as he shuffled forward in the widely-accepted “elderly stoop”.
On reaching this particular sign he stopped, gazed at it, and went “Ohhhh. One Way!” in English, nodded to himself, and continued on past us.
Clearly he also knew: He was already only going one way.
